ABOUT MOLLY
Molly Spain received her BAFA from the University of New Mexico, after also attending Slade School of Fine Art - University College London and Iowa State University. Molly works in a variety of mediums, using a skilled practice of material and formal exploration. She investigates international aesthetics from the past and present to forge a foundational visual language, producing forms that often evoke unearthed ancient structures and artifacts. In 2021, she completed 'Critical Mass,' a painting that covers the entire exterior of the 4-story Mainframe Studios building in Des Moines. She is also known for sculptural explorations in a variety of materials, including shaped paper installations – some of which incorporate mapped video projections. Her fine art has been exhibited at Olson Larsen Gallery, The Heritage Gallery, Mainframe Studios, and various individual and group installations in Des Moines, Santa Fe, Taos, and elsewhere. Molly’s art is in a variety of private, corporate, and commercial collections throughout the country and has been featured in DSM Magazine. She is currently based in Des Moines.
The exhibition, “Relic,” is made possible through the support of the IOWA ARTS & CULTURE RESILIENCE GRANT and the AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ARTS GRANT from Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
